This book offers a clear and intellectually rigorous gateway into international arbitration. Its original “anatomical” approach separates the system into its core legal, procedural, institutional and human components, then compares eleven major arbitration mechanisms through a common analytical framework.

The volume begins with foundations and cross-cutting issues, including institutional and ad hoc arbitration, digitalisation, diversity, sources of law and soft law, review mechanisms and enforcement. It then examines inter-State, investor-State, commercial and specialised forms of arbitration.

Each mechanism is considered through common questions concerning jurisdiction, procedure, adjudicators, applicable law, review, enforcement and the relationship with domestic and international courts.

Read full endorsement

“The Anatomy of International Arbitration is a must have and a must read. It transcends the conventional boundaries of legal literature. This magnum opus, meticulously curated by Yarik Kryvoi and Anna Petrig is not merely a compendium of arbitral wisdom; it actually offers analytical insights and deftly navigates the intricate interplay between established norms and emerging challenges. It provides a kaleidoscopic view that is both panoramic in scope and microscopic in detail. The book’s innovative 'anatomical' approach deciphers the complex language of arbitration for neophytes and veterans alike. In essence, this book is an intellectual odyssey and is destined to occupy a hallowed place not just on bookshelves, but in the minds of all who seek to comprehend and shape the evolving narrative of international arbitration.”
