Professor Yarik Kryvoi has more than 20 years of experience in university teaching, professional legal training, curriculum development and online course design. His work combines international legal practice with research into how lawyers learn, how professional skills should be taught and how technology can make legal education more effective and accessible.
He has taught international law, arbitration, investment law, commercial law, comparative law and related subjects in the United Kingdom, continental Europe, Asia and other regions. His students and trainees have included practising lawyers, arbitrators, government officials, postgraduate students and early-career professionals.
His academic roles have included serving as a full-time professor of law in London, an external examiner at King’s College London, a tutor at the Graduate Institute in Geneva and a supervisor of online LLM dissertations. He has also taught international commercial arbitration at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and designed professional programmes through BIICL and Arbitration Lab.
Professor Kryvoi holds a doctorate from University College London based on research into online legal education and learning design. He is a member of the Higher Education Academy and has worked extensively on the design of practical, skills-based and technology-supported legal training.
Legal education research and learning design

Professor Kryvoi’s doctoral research examined how online learning can make legal education more practical and accessible. The research used design-based methods and drew on the creation and evaluation of an international investment law course.
His work addresses learning outcomes, sequencing, scaffolding, video design, learner engagement, assessment, feedback, professional relevance and the responsible use of artificial intelligence and other digital tools in legal training.

International Investment Law and Dispute Resolution
A self-paced BIICL course covering the history and rationale of investment protection, applicable law, substantive treaty standards, investor-State dispute settlement and current reform debates.
The course provides approximately 18 hours of guided learning and includes infographics, practitioner discussions, quizzes and a certificate for participants who complete the applicable requirements.
