It has been my honour to play a key role in convening the first high-level Expert Group Meeting on Corruption and Foreign investments organised by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the UN Conference on Trade and Development on 18-19 May 2021.
The event brought together over 140 experts from States, intergovernmental organisations, private sector and civil society specialised in investment policy, corporate compliance and prevention and combatting of corruption. We convened it to brainstorm ideas for the first-ever UN General Assembly Special Session focused on corruption this June.
The panellists focused on corruption and transfer of proceeds of crime in the context of international investments, the role of relevant stakeholders and the United Nations Convention against Corruption and other international instruments. They discussed the role of technology in tackling corruption, anticorruption due diligence, corruption in investment immigration programmes and other topics.
